The time decides the yolk
These are rough guides, timed from when the egg goes into boiling water. Egg size and whether it came from the fridge change the result, so adjust after your first try.
| Time | Yolk |
|---|---|
| 6 min | Runny in the middle |
| 7 min | Soft and moist |
| 9 min | Mostly set, soft in the center |
| 12 min | Fully set |
Stop the cooking
Putting the eggs in cold water right after boiling keeps them from cooking further.
Frequently asked questions
Does the time change if I start in cold water?
Yes. The eggs also cook while the water heats up. The times here are for eggs placed in boiling water.
Is the time the same for many eggs?
Water takes longer to return to a boil with more eggs, so add a little time.
